Holocaust Survivor and Social Media Educator Lily Ebert Passes Away at 100
Lily Ebert, a Holocaust survivor who inspired millions with her story of resilience and dedication to education, has passed away at the age of 100. Ebert died peacefully at her London home on October 9, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.
A native of Hungary, Ebert was deported to Auschwitz-Birkenau in 1944, where she lost her mother, younger sister, and brother. She and two of her sisters survived the camp and were liberated by Allied forces in 1945. After the war, Ebert rebuilt her life in Switzerland, Israel, and eventually London, where she raised a family and became a prominent figure in Holocaust education.
In her later years, Ebert gained international recognition for her work on social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram, where she shared her story and educated a new generation about the Holocaust. Her videos, created with the help of her great-grandson Dov Forman, garnered millions of followers and billions of views.
Ebert’s tireless work in Holocaust education earned her numerous accolades, including the British Empire Medal and an MBE presented by King Charles III. Tributes poured in from around the world upon news of her death, with King Charles praising her “extraordinary strength of spirit, resilience, and courage.”
Ebert’s legacy will continue to live on through her family, her writings, and the countless lives she touched with her story. Her funeral will be held in London, followed by burial in Israel.
